Pumps

Whether it's to keep your pool water clear or to have a spectacular water feature for your residents to enjoy, something needs to get that water flowing. Pumps are the heart of your pool system.

Breakdown

There are many different brands and models for pool pumps but they are all designed the same.

  1. Motor - An electric motor of varying power.
  2. Shaft Seal - A two piece seal designed to be water tight while still allowing 360 degree rotation. This allows the motor to connect to the impeller of the pump and spin it while still containing water.
  3. Impeller - Similar in concept to a propeller on an air plane, this bladed piece spins inside of the pump and moves water.
  4. Diverter - This piece is necessary for the impeller to move water effectively.
  5. Pump Housing - This contains all of the essential parts of the pump and is sealed with a large rubber gasket to make it water tight.
  6. Strainer Housing - This is where a basket is contained to catch any debris that is pulled into the pump. They're designed with lids on top to give maintenance people access to the baskets too clean them out.
  7. Pump Basket - Fits inside of the strainer housing to catch debris and prevent it from being pulled into the impeller and causing problems. These should be emptied on a regular basis to ensure the pump is running with maximum efficiency.
  8. Drain Plug - On the bottom of the Strainer Housing, you can remove this plug to drain out any water for maintenance purposes or you can install a Safety Vacuum Release System in its' place.

Any and all pumps are designed to run water-tight and any leaks are a sign of a problem.
